The Town of Port McNeill is seeking a new Deputy Corporate Officer.
 
With a population of just under 2500, Port McNeill is the second largest community on Northern Vancouver Island. The Town is a natural gateway to some of the most spectacular outdoor recreational opportunities on the West Coast, including wildlife viewing, sea kayaking, diving, boating, and fresh and saltwater fishing. Its location offers access to the labyrinth of waterways of BC’s largest marine park, known as the Broughton Archipelago.
 
Reporting to the CAO / Corporate Officer, the Deputy Corporate Officer is responsible for assisting with the statutory duties of the Corporate Officer under the Community Charter. The DCO provides administrative and organizational support to the CAO and members of Council, overseeing the preparation of Council and Committee agendas and minutes; and attending Council and Committee meetings. The DCO drafts bylaws, policies, and other documents; drafts reports; and performs other duties of the Corporate Officer. Working with a small yet collaborative internal staff team, the DCO also provides support to other departments as required.
 
This high-profile role requires a professional with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate will possess the ability to deal effectively with Council, a wide variety of internal customers, members of the community, and government agencies.
 
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of three (3) years in a local government setting
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation related to local government in BC
  • Ease working in a computerized environment; proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • A Public Administration certificate, or courses toward certification, is preferred.
