The salary range for this position is recruitment range: $56,000.16 – $79,800.12 annually. The starting salary for this position will be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and subject to the requirements of the Management Compensation and Classification Framework (MCCF)

Government Communications and Public Engagement (GCPE) is a dynamic, progressive organization that supports the government in its ongoing dialogue with British Columbians. The Communications Operations Division is responsible for communications management and coordination of corporate priority files of government. We also provide strategic advice on daily issues-based communications activities to meet government’s public communications requirements.

The Public Affairs Officer reports to the Communications Director and/or Manager. In the Public Affairs Office role, you will provide a range of professional communications expertise and services on behalf of your assigned ministry. As a Public Affairs Officer, you are responsible for preparing a variety of written communications products including writing news releases, key messages, speeches, developing and executing communication plans, and providing issues management advice, event coordination services, and media relations expertise.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as journalism, public relations, public policy, political science, writing, English, or a communications-related discipline and 2 years or more communications related work experience.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Related work experience is defined as a requiring the following:

Experience in public relations, communications and/or media relations in a large organization.

Experience building and maintaining relationships with business partners and clients.

Experience in event planning and/or media relations.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
Experience in social media management or moderation.

Issues management experience (i.e.: within public relations or communications).

4 years or more communications related work experience.

Proviso/Willingness Statements

Applicants must be willing and able to:
Work on-call and extended hours during emergency activations, including operational deployments across the province.

Work flexible work arrangements (schedules and workplaces). Some evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate meetings, travel, etc.
