The Province is entering a period of major transformation of its social housing portfolio and modernization of housing programs to ensure it can deliver affordable housing for vulnerable Nova Scotians into the future. A ten-year Bilateral Agreement was signed in August 2019 with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) under the National Housing Strategy (NHS).

Primary Accountabilities

Reporting to the Manager, Transformation and Strategic Initiatives, the Research and Stat Officer 2 supports key decision-making and evaluation with respect to housing policy development and analysis as well as NHS planning and housing transformation-related activities.

Specifically, you will:
support housing program and policy development, analysis and evaluation;

undertake strategic research and analysis;

prepare and review submissions to Executive Council;

coordinate corporate planning and reporting processes;

compile and analyze data, perform analytical research and statistical analysis, and develop critical information to support strategic decision making;

determine research and data requirements and facilitate data gathering activities;

support options analysis and development of recommendations; and

implement reporting and presentation requirements.

Your expertise is valued as you support key initiatives and contribute to housing policy innovation for the Department by identifying data, technology or process needs according to new research, development, and trends.

Qualifications and Experience

As our next Research and Stat Officer, you have successfully completed a bachelor’s degree and have three (3) years of related experience with quantitative and qualitative research models and statistical analysis; or a completed Master’s degree along with one (1) year of related experience. It is considered an asset if you have a degree(s) in Economics.

You have strong interpersonal skills and have a knack for building collaborative relationships to facilitate project success. As well, you are comfortable communicating with senior officials, and possess excellent communication and presentation skills. Your experience and education have provided you with strong research, analytical and organizational skills. This role also requires your ability to work independently with minimal supervision, meet tight deadlines, be self-motivated, and ability to follow-up proactively and address issues as they arise.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s) and reference checks.
