Special Education Technician

Reporting to the Coordinator of Professional Services, the Special Education Technician collaborates with the Student Services team in applying adapted education techniques and methods within the context of an intervention plan or program intended for students requiring special support.

More specifically, but not limited to, the Special Education Technician:

  • Oversees all exam accommodation services including scheduling and invigilation;
  • Oversees note-taking services for ACCESS students;
  • Organizes Disabilities Awareness Day and other similar events;
  • Facilitates awareness and skill building workshops for faculty, staff and students;
  • Provides one-on-one adaptive technology training to students with special needs;
  • Makes recommendations for purchasing specialized equipment;
  • Helps students in problematic situations relating to academic problems and exam accommodations and refers those students to the appropriate services;
  • Provides information to students about the services that are offered;
  • Liaises with teachers in relation to problems with students with special needs;
  • Maintains confidential student files and prepares teacher notifications of students registered with ACCESS;
  • Updates websites and promotional materials about ACCESS services;
  • Maintains database, prepares statistics and reports about the ACCESS services;
  • Liaises with the Academic Systems – Registrar’s offices;
  • Replaces Reception at Student Services as needed.

Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (35 hours/week)

Replacement: A.S.A.P. until May 20, 2022, with the possibility of an extension.

Requirements :Qualifications:

  • Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty, particularly in special education, or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by a competent authority.

Conditions related to the specific position:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships;
  • Experience working with Adaptive Technology, an asset;
  • Ability to provide technical and software assistance to students as required;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills (to be tested);
  • Good French written and oral communication skills (to be tested);
  • Intermediate knowledge of Word and Excel (to be tested).
