Description
The Volunteer & Events Coordinator provides full cycle recruitment including all aspects of onboarding of all volunteers who support the mission and delivery of programs. The incumbent will provide leadership to the development and delivery of events and fundraising opportunities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct full cycle recruitment, selection, references, orientation, training, and evaluation for all volunteers annually
- Conduct volunteer onboarding requirements ensuring volunteers have participated and received all mandatory training including but not limited to: Health and safety requirement for their position, Position related training (i.e. kitchen safety, thrift store safe lifting, etc.), Armatus, Confidentiality statement, Non-Fraternization policy, Vulnerable sector screening
- Match volunteer’s skills with activities needed and assign volunteers to appropriate department
- Develop and maintain volunteer files and record keeping of all activities/hours each volunteer does
- Ensure volunteers job descriptions are up to date and reviewed with volunteers annually
- Prepare monthly volunteer department schedule and reports
- Plan and organize, in consultation with Director of Business, an annual volunteer appreciation event
- Actively attract new and reengage with former volunteers and participate in speaking engagements to engage the community and local business for volunteer service
- Actively promote Bayside Mission Centre volunteer opportunities and create presentations not limited to: Service Clubs, Churches, organizations, schools in the City of Barrie and area
- Participate in development and ongoing updates, in coordination with Director of Business, of Volunteer Services Policy & Procedures and Handbook
- Maintain statistical records for Salvation Army Management Information System and DHQ
- Conduct follow-up meetings and evaluations with volunteers
- Plan, organize and coordinate special fundraising events such as Santa Shuffle in coordination with the Executive Director
- Create and maintain social media postings for volunteer and events
- Assist with Receptionist duties, such as breaks, lunch and days off
- Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Community College certificate in Volunteer Management and/or Event Management
- Proof of a valid First Aid and CPR certificate; Non-Crisis Violence Prevention; Food Handler Certificate
Experience:
- The incumbent must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in volunteer services management
- Previous experience recruiting, training, onboarding and managing volunteers
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Strong computer skills and able to work with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint), and Internet
- Able to create presentations and brochures
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must have a reliable car and able to travel in and around the Barrie area
- Able to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work in a team environment and/or independently
- Self-motivated and disciplined
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Previous public speaking experience an asset
- Previous experience managing social media platforms an asset
The successful candidate upon hiring must provide or participate in:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually
HOURS: 30 hours per week Monday to Friday 10:00 am – 4:30 pm with flexibility for evening and weekend hours
