Plan Checker I

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) is now accepting applications for a full-time Plan Checker I position based out of its Salmon Arm, BC office.
Under the general direction of the Team Leader, Building and Bylaw Services, the Plan Checker I is responsible for the coordination and examination of plans and specifications accompanying building inspection and permit applications to ensure compliance with the BC Building Code, CSRD Building Bylaw and other applicable bylaws.
The Plan Checker I works closely with Development Services staff and provides a high level of customer service. This position is responsible for the efficient review of building applications and inspections which involves, examining plans and drawings, as well as providing advice and direction to external clients in regard to the CSRD Building Bylaw, Part 9 of the BC Building Code, and the Building Act.
Education, Training, Experience and Certification Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by a Diploma in Building Technology or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution plus a minimum of two (2) years of experience working in the field of construction, preferably in carpentry or mechanical trades, and one (1) year relevant experience, preferably in a local government building department; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Successful completion of the qualified Level 1 Building exams and currently enrolled and/or willingness to enroll in the Building Official In-Training Program.
- Valid BC Driver’s License.
This is a permanent full-time position and is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement negotiated between the CSRD and CUPE Local 1908. The salary range for this position is
$2,526.59 to $2,797.32 bi-weekly (January 2021 rates) with an attractive benefit package. Typical hours of work for this position are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. (Option to work an additional half hour and participate in flex schedule.)
