The salary range for this position is:
Recruitment range: $52,886 – $59,527 maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity.

Performance range: starting salary to max of $69,132 is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

This position provides academic advising for prospective, newly admitted and current students in PHSP. The Academic Adviser/Admissions Officer actively consults and collaborates with students and reviews academic transcripts to provide information, referrals and advice that will support students’ planning and decision-making as it relates to their degree and life choices. The incumbent responds to a broad range of queries from students, faculty and staff, including in-person, telephone and email communication. The incumbent also evaluates applications to the BA program, coordinates the admissions process for the MPH and SDH graduate programs, and is responsible for a large portfolio of related administration.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, and two to three years of student advising experience that includes:

Using student record systems (Banner) and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) effectively.

Demonstrated communication, writing and presentation skills.

Related experience communicating with students; delivering workshops and presentations.

Knowledge requirements include:
An understanding of UVic, HSD and PHSP academic regulations;

An understanding of field education practices and policies;

An understanding and commitment to equity and diversity;

Competency requirements include:
Strong assessment, advising, planning and problem solving skills;

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;

Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders;

Ability to work effectively across differences;

Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills;

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Assets or Preferences:
An understanding of University registration systems, online technologies, and distance education tools.

Knowledge of UVic systems such as FAST, Native Banner, Self-Service Banner
