Job Description
Position Summary
The Community Research Liaison (CRL) is a local community member familiar with the Kelowna Friendship Center and the Metis Community Services Society of BC. The main role is to assist (approximately 7 hours per week) in community engagement and community research activities while facilitating community-university-health region collaborative team relationships. You will work with the community, the Community Advisory Team and the research team. You will be supported by the Project Coordinator and trained by UBC research team members.
Responsibilities
- Complete moderately complex research activities ensuring respect of protocols within the Friendship Centre/Métis Centre (hereafter FC/MC); work with local Indigenous communities/Nations to inform them of the study
- Work with FC/MC management and staff to assist in research activities and building/strengthening university-health region-community relationships
- Review the research project
- Complete research ethics certification (Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans [TCPS 2] CORE Tutorial); Submit the Certificate to the Research Coordinator
- Follow research ethical protocols (UBC and IH Ethics; Community Research Agreements)
- Assist with inviting specific community members, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers, to the Community Advisory Team as suggested by the Research Coordinator and Executive Director
- Work in co-operation with members of the research team
- Recruit study participants for research activities (Talking Circles/Learning Circles, Community Gatherings)
- Recruit community members for Cultural Safety Education workshop, end of study Celebration Gathering,
- Maintain records to track participation rates for the study
- Coordinate and participate in Centre meetings and correspond with local community, research and Community Advisory Team members, Elder Advisors, and other site Community Research Liaisons to ensure transparency and continuity of the project
- Organize Cultural Safety Education workshops
- Organize Talking/Learning Circles/ Community Gatherings that will be facilitated by the Elder(s)/Knowledge Keeper(s)
- Administer hard-copy and/or online surveys
- Digitally record and transcribe Talking /Learning Circle discussions
- Record and transcribe field notes, ensuring accuracy, on the Talking /Learning Circles and Community Gatherings
- Assist with preparing reports to be shared with members of the research team and participating agencies including compiling information related to data collection/analysis/sharing
- Ensure secure management/storage of research data
- Assist with maintaining, coding and analyzing data
- Assist in preparing materials for sharing of findings in consultation with the Community Advisory Team, Indigenous Youth/Young Adult Elder/Knowledge Keeper Advisory/Working Team, Research team, and FC/MC
- Perform other related activities as required
