Position Summary

ARIES (Applied Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Services) at Centennial College helps businesses overcome both innovation and entrepreneurship challenges. This is done through leveraging the assets of the College which include the vast infrastructure, the trained staff, and its talented students. It also supports staff- and student-driven research and development projects by helping people with ideas find funding, staff, and resources to convert those ideas into reality.

The Compliance Officer is a part-time employee and reports to the Manager of Operations, Finance and Risk of ARIES. They monitor its research, innovation and entrepreneurship activities for compliance with existing legal and policy frameworks

Responsibilities

Monitor research, innovation, and entrepreneurship activities with regard to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, College and department ethical and business policies and procedures, and grant specifications relating to budgets, time and effort reporting requirements.

Develop policy frameworks related to compliance on grants, contracts, and other programs.

Develop best practices and procedures to ensure the compliance with respect to the relevant laws, regulations, policies and regulatory frameworks.

Take the lead responsibility for contract management, negotiation, and reporting from legal perspective.

Provide education and advice regarding compliance and intellectual property requirements.

Provide trainings and guides with respect to best practices, procedures, policies and regulations related to research ethics concerns.

Guide compliance and representation, in support of anticipated and ongoing litigation activities

Qualifications/Experience

The candidate will possess a four-year degree or diploma, preferably, in law, public or business administration or other applicable discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

In terms of experience, the candidate will have five years of experience in research administration, legal or compliance roles. Experience in an academic, law office, or government setting and familiarity with compliance issues related to research, innovation or entrepreneurship is preferred.

Proof of credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post secondary institutions and/or their foreign equivalents will be required at the time of job offer.
