The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education encompasses the three counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving 5757 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Assignment

Grade 2 Integrated Language Arts, Mathematics, ELI, Music P-2, Grade 5 Integrated Learning Block 1

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Education with specialization in Elementary Education. He/She will have experience and / or courses in teaching lower elementary Integrated Language Arts and Mathematics, especially in terms of daily guided reading, writing and the three part lesson. The teacher will have courses or experience teaching elementary Music and Early Literacy Intervention. He / She will also be required to teach Science, Social Studies, Health and Computer Technology during the Grade 5 Integrated Learning Block.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of and be able to apply the Nova Scotia Curriculum Guides in all teaching. He/She will have excellent organization and planning skills, and will keep detailed daily records of lesson plans, student progress and evidence of success. Classroom management skills will be very strong. Expectations will be fair and constructed with a collaborative approach.

An understanding and consistent application of the Inclusive Education Policy is required. The candidate will show motivation, dedication and commitment to teaching and student success.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification

Bachelor of Education – Elementary

Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.

Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism.

Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

University level courses in special or inclusive education

Professional development in Program Support

Professional development in literacy education

Experience teaching grades P-6
