What you’ll do 

Reporting to the Manager, Safety Operations and Parking Services, the Security Operations and Parking Advisor has significant interaction and visibility with members of the University Community as a subject matter expert for Security Operations and Parking. This position is required to conduct confidential investigations of a potentially punitive or disciplinary nature within the University community, which may occur outside the standard hours of operation. Such investigations may require interviewing students, staff and management personnel. This position requires access to personal identifying information of students and staff. The incumbent is expected to have a high degree of coaching acumen and an ability to respectfully communicate across all levels of the University. Duties include implementing and coaching on the respective management programs to ensure a safe and secure workplace and appropriately managed parking. There is a fair amount of independent decision making that must be well-reasoned and professionally performed. Profound discretion is required for this position.

  • Provides excellent customer service to prioritize and address inquiries and concerns.
  • Accurately records and documents needs, complaints, and requests of clients and contractors.
  • Schedules meetings and visits of contractors, external and internal partners.
  • Creates programs and training, as well as audits programs for compliance and improvement.
  • Coordinates day-to-day security operations, in conjunction with the contractor, to ensure the safety and protection of the University community and assets.
  • Responds promptly to security alerts and incidents beyond guard level.
  • Identifies and assesses potential security risks and vulnerabilities, and implements measures to mitigate risks.
  • Oversees the operation and maintenance of the parking lots and facilities.
  • Develops, updates, and implements parking policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the issuance and tracking of parking permits in conjunction with the parking contractor.
  • What you’ll bring
  • Education, training and experience equal to post-secondary education with at least a Basic Security Training (BST) Certificate from an accredited institution such as the Justice Institute of BC.
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in security, in roles of progressively increasing responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of security best practices.
  • Knowledge of parking services.
  • Familiarity with parking technologies is an asset.
  • Proficiency in guard tour software, CCTV usage and MS Teams is required.
  • Willingness to travel, if required.
  • Basic Security Training (BST) and valid B.C. security license.
  • BC Class V Driver’s License.

Days and Hours of WorkOur standard work week is Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm. This position may include evenings, weekends and non-standard work weeks.

SalaryThe typical salary range for this role falls between $68,994 – $91,992 per annum, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity, with future opportunities for performance-based pay and career progression.
