Come join our Amazing Surgical Services Team as an Educator in the Medical Device Reprocessing Department at Red Deer Regional Hospital. This is a team player in the Surgical Services Portfolio and reports directly to the Manager of MDR.

Description:

The incumbent will provide leadership in planning, coordination and evaluating of education and training activities for MDR staff. Process and develops educational programs to meet requirements based on MDR standards and guidelines including, Alberta Health (AH), Infection Prevention &Control (IPC), Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and other relevant standards, designs, develops and oversees orientation processes for new staff. Designs, develops and oversees training education to support MDR procedures, equipment, and device inventory, including new procedures and changes to existing procedures. Complex devices i.e. Flexible endoscopes, disassembly of multicomponent and complex devices, new equipment and devices. Remedial training for incorrect practice, incidents, and accidents. Designs, develops and oversees staff competencies, training and assessment. Addresses and responds to quality control issues. Maintains staff data base for all site and based education and training activities and events. Able to support educational requests of rural areas. Extensive experience and strong proficiency in utilizing SPM for staff training, follow-up, and data collection. Possesses the ability to work with MDR Supervisor in recruiting practices and assigning unionized staff. The position helps to foster an environment that promotes staff motivation and development, open communication and leading best practice in support of a shared vision. As well as, helping lead special or ongoing projects or incitive. Working closely with O.R nursing educator and or nurse clinicians.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum 5-7 years of experience in an active acute care facility with complex surgical procedures. Must be a Graduate of a recognized and accredited sterile processing educational program and able to provide course completion certificate. The candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as have the ability to engage employees in learning and development the required skills. Extensive knowledge of all types of instrumentation is also a requirement of this position. Previous teaching experience.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to communicate effectively. Must have experience with Microsoft Software suite, Connect Care, SPM, RLS, and ESP.
