Administrative Temporary Full-time New Contract Position (1 year contract)

Conestoga College’s Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness & Performance (CISWP) is currently recruiting three Researchers to work on various research projects in the area of Work and Health, Ergonomics, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). CISWP’s mission is to improve the safety, wellness, and performance of the Canadian labour force by generating knowledge, transferring research to practice, and strengthening workforce development – all in collaboration with stakeholders. CISWP adopts a transdisciplinary and collaborative approach to build capacity for productive and sustainable work. CISWP has state-of-the-art research infrastructure within two major labs equipped with a variety of dedicated field-based and lab-based ergonomic, health and safety, human performance measurement systems, and a full body photogrammetric anthropometry system. The labs are named for their research mandate: START – Skilled Trades Applied Research and Training, and STRIDE – Skilled Trades Research in Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity.

The incumbent should demonstrate research interest in ergonomics, anthropometry, and prevention of workplace injuries. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, and Director of Development and Operation, CISWP, this position will support CISWP’s research program in injury prevention using field-to-lab-to-field approaches. Research activities may include qualitative and quantitative research, working with peer researchers, mentoring co-op students, and developing and implementing diverse knowledge transfer and knowledge mobilization activities. This position will also work closely with other staff at CISWP, and our community partner organizations.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with four days on-site at the Reuter Campus and one day remote. Hours of work are Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. This position will require travel within Ontario for field data collection.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply and maintain ethics approval from Applied Research and Innovation 
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation (including field data collections)
  • Help prepare interim and final reports
  • Draft scientific publication and submission
  • Mentor co-op students for research projects
  • Attend internal and external meetings, site visits, and demonstrations to industry
  • Create project activity schedules and experimental design
  • Identify training needs related to research equipment/processes and delivering training to staff and students
  • Attend and participate in activities such as hosting webinars, participating in conferences, and project related networking
  • Act as subject matter expert and provide technical support for development of reports
  • Prepare material and coordinate success story completion
  • Coordinate social media activities
  • Set up, coordinate, attend and follow up on meetings with potential research partners (i.e., industry, government, associations, academia, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of research-based Master’s Degree in Human Factors & Ergonomics, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Biomechanics, Occupational Health & Safety, Occupational Epidemiology, or a related field of study is required
  • Research experience completed during Master’s studies is required
  • A strong knowledge base of qualitative and quantitative research
  • A strong and successful track record completing complex research projects
  • Strong computer skills including software for quantitative, qualitative, and statistical analysis
  • Excellent communication, writing, and networking skills
  • Field data collection experience
  • Experience with surveys, interviews, and collecting self-reported data
  • Experience in community-based research
  • Proven ability to multitask and manage time effectively
  • Experience in using field-based ergonomic equipment, including wearable sensors and portable instrumentation, and the ability to troubleshoot, process, analyze, and interpret signals using specialized software
  • Access to a reliable means of transportation
