To provide therapeutic clinical group treatment through use of music, dance, movement, art and other expressive modalilites and theraputic activities to the patients of Mental Health Services. To develop and implement appropriate leisure and social activities to patients having psychosocial dysfunction. The position will function as a member of the treatment team and interact with patients in activities desigend to fulfil individualized treatment goals within a pyschosical rehabilitation program and theraputic miliue. To assist with oversight of the Activity Therapist department by facilitating and mentoring team members in the performance of their responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops an individualized therapeutic activity schedule with input from the treatment team and patient, which reflects the patient’s needs, interests and functioning level.
- Provides individual and group theraputic activities to patients while maintaining a safe environment and in accordance with a program schedule.
- Completes assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with regulations and established time frames.
- Assist in development of Individualized Treatment Plan
- Completes documentation after each group to reflect services provided as patient’s progress towards meeting treatment plan goals.
- Complies with all AT, MHS, and Health Alliance policies and procedures.
- Participates in staff and team meetings. Maintains agenda for AT staff meetings.
- Responsible for scheduling the activity therapists to meet the daily needs of the department and unit
- Assists with supervising the activity therapists by facilitating and mentoring team members in the performance of their responsibilities
- Communicates Activity Therapy Departmental needs, updates and concerns to leadership
- Assist in the orientation process of new activity therapists
- Maintain AT group schedule
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE
- Two years experience working in mental health field, required.
- Three years experience working in the mental health field, preferred.
EDUCATION
- Master’s Degree in Creative Arts Therapy, Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) or Mental Health Counseling (MHC) from an accredited Graduate Program.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- New State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) or NYS Department of Education License or Limited Permit License to practice as an LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LCAT
OTHER
- Demonstrates experience in one or more of the therapeutic treatment modalities, i.e. individual, family, group or couples’ therapy, and with cases that present the more difficult treatment issues
- Excellent oral and written skills, basic computer skills, including typing, and has the ability to function independently with minimal selective use of consultation.
