The City of Coquitlam is experiencing high growth rates and exciting new development challenges. The completion of the Evergreen Rapid Transit Line and a rapidly growing town centre are generating a fast paced and dynamic work environment.
 
As a member of the Building Permits Division Team, combining technical and clerical work, you will examine plans and permit applications relating to multi-family, commercial, institutional or industrial building permits for compliance with the BC Building Code and by-laws. Using a considerable degree of independent judgement, you will: discuss proposed projects with architects, contractors, engineers and other interested parties; interpret/explain building and bylaw requirements; make suggestions and discuss possibilities for revising plans to conform to requirements and assist Plans Reviewer 1’s as required.
 
Along with education from an Institute of Technology with a certificate (and, preferably, a diploma) in Building Technology, plus considerable related experience in the building construction methods, architectural/engineering field, and some experience in a municipal office, preferably as a Plan Examiner 1.
 
You also have sound knowledge of: BC Building Codes, building and zoning bylaws; the ability to interpret and apply BC Building Code, Bylaws, and regulations. Possession of a BOABC Level 2 qualification and/or certification as required in the Building Act. Experience with AMANDA is an asset. You will possess excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills as well as exceptional customer service. An equivalent combination of training and experience will also be considered.

The rate of pay for this CUPE position is $35.68 to $42.12 hourly (2020 rates), with a comprehensive benefits package. Applicants under consideration may be required to consent to a Police Information Check and will be required to possess a valid BC Driver’s License.
