What you’ll doNature & Scope of Work

We are hiring for an instructor in our program. There is opportunity to teach a variety of courses focused on the role of the education assistant, on both the North Vancouver and Mt Curry campuses.

On the North Vancouver Campus, our classes are taught in-person in the evenings. We have partnered with Lil’wat Nation to deliver the education assistant certificate program, starting September 2024 at the Ts̓ zil Learning Centre. These classes are offered on weekends. Instruction in this program is included in the scope of work of this posting.

As a classroom instructor, your duties include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare all materials and implement curriculum
  • Mark all assignments and prepare final grades
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours on campus
  • Attend regularly scheduled department and faculty meetings
  • Participate in University committees as required
  • Collaborate with EA faculty and advisory council members regarding teaching practices and principles
  • What you’ll bring
  • Minimum of University Master’s Degree in Education, with a focus on Inclusive (Special) Education, from recognized post-secondary institution, undergraduate degree in field of Education, or course specific qualifications
  • Currently registered with Professional College or Association Member in good standing with Professional College or Association
  • Minimum of 5 years successful experience working in the British Columbia public school system
  • Current experience and practical hands-on knowledge of classroom teaching strategies and best practices used to support children and adolescents who present with wide range of abilities in BC school systems
  • Current knowledge of and experience working with children and adolescents who present with wide range of abilities in BC Public school systems within an inclusive school environment
  • Current working knowledge of BC schools and curriculum
  • Current experience and practical hands-on knowledge in consultation and collaboration practices involving classroom teachers and EAs for designing, implementing and monitoring individualized education plans (IEP) for children or adolescents requiring significantly adjusted or replacement curriculum in BC school systems
  • Work experience with adult learners in a mentoring relationship
  • Current experience in training/working with Education Assistants (EA)
  • Post-secondary teaching experience (preferred)
  • Exemplary communication skills
  • Working knowledge of current computer technology (internet, email, zoom, MS Teams, eLearn)
  • Philosophical principles related to inclusionary models presently used in BC public school settings for students who present with a wide range of abilities, including Trauma informed practices, Social Emotional Learning Principles, and First Peoples Principles of Learning
  • Ability to work within a flexible, fast-paced team environment adhering to time sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to clearly articulate own vision in the promotion and development of best practices in inclusive education and research
  • Understanding the importance of, and consistent participation in, program activities, ancillary duties, professional development, and collegial decision-making, as per CFA guidelines.
