Junior Hydrologist/Climate Adaptation Specialist

About the Opportunity
Our Calgary office is currently seeking a Hydrologist/Climate Adaptation Specialist with one to three years of experience to join our growing Climate Change team. We are looking for someone who shares our core values, has a passion for developing creative solutions, and has a spark for consulting.
Our Climate Adaptation area of practice is a fast-growing part of Urban Systems’ Water Resources Practice network. In this role, you will benefit from the support of leading industry professionals while working on innovative and challenging projects for municipalities and indigenous communities across Western Canada.
Your core duties will include:
- Assisting with climate change vulnerability assessments and climate resiliency planning for a range of clients in Western Canada.
- Developing hydrologic models from GIS databases using a variety of hydrologic modelling software including PCSWMM, XPSWMM, HEC-RAS, or Raven, incorporating climate change modelling and regional analysis.
- Conducting statistical analyses of climate and environmental data using R & Python software.
- Working collaboratively with municipalities and indigenous communities to balance risk, uncertainties, and costs to increase their climate resiliency.
- Climate change assessments of stormwater, water and, wastewater infrastructure.
- Writing reports and technical memoranda.

Due to COVID-19, the opportunity to work remotely and from home exists, although from time to time we may need assistance with client work or face-to-face meetings when it is safe to do so. Therefore, the individual will need to reside in Calgary or within commuting distance.
About You
The preferred candidate for this opportunity will have a degree from an accredited university in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Earth Sciences. A post-graduate degree in Water Resources and previous experience in hydrologic assessments and climate change would be an asset.

- A keen interest in consulting and working closely with a range of clients.
- Great listening, service, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to present, explain, and discuss technical details with a non-technical audience and members of the public.
- Experience with Python, R, Matlab or similar programming tools.
- Experience with GIS.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at a time and thrive in a self-directed work environment.
- Willing and able to travel to project sites throughout Western Canada.
- Hold a valid AB class 5 driver’s license.
