Description
The Community Worker will develop an understanding of rising need of community service programs in our community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collect, sort, and pack food donations.
- Assemble food hampers.
- Distribute items to clients.
- Assist with preparations for lunch and dinner program
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment

- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Completion of some secondary education.
- Previous community service experience is an asset.
- First Aid/CPR certificate an asset.
- Good communication skills both written and oral.
- Good attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Self-motivated and disciplined.
- Ability to work within a large team as well as independently.
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A background check with vulnerable sector screening that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.
HOURS: 20 hours per week. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable. (Some days the hours may differ). Note: Required to be available for full 10 weeks of program starting June 28, 2021.
