The department is pursuing fund raising with industry partners to support the HighTechU program which has been popular with the local technology sector. There is a likelihood that the position may become a continuing position beyond the initial year.
The salary range for this position is:
Recruitment range: $52,886 – $59,527 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
Performance range: starting salary to max of $69,132 is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
This position reports to the Department Chair (or Designate) of the ECE Department and works in collaboration with the Department and the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science including office and technical staff, academic faculty, external organizations and communities, instructors, students, and other university staff.
The HighTechU Manager oversees projects and initiatives related to high school outreach and recruitment within the ECE Department, particularly the HighTechU initiative. These duties include: developing and maintaining relationships with community partners; program planning, course and program development; strategic planning; liaising and developing partnerships with other academic institutions, key community stakeholders, as well as programs within and external to the ECE Department; managing special projects; preparing grant applications for development and delivery and overseeing administrative activities. The responsibilities also include student instructor and community volunteer recruitment, marketing, and budget administration.
Outreach activities take place 7 days per week and may operate on evenings and weekends. The Manager will be expected to work business hours Monday to Friday with some evening or weekend work as required by the operation.
Focuses include working to increase student enrollment across all ECE undergraduate programs, increase gender diversity and representation within these programs, as well as increasing indigenous representation within these programs.
Job Requirements
This position requires an undergraduate degree in a related field (Science, Engineering) and at least 5 years’ experience working with high school aged youth in an educational setting. A Professional Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education would be an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
