Description
The primary responsibility of the Kitchen Helper is to assist the Cook in preparing meals.
HOURS:
- 32 hours per week, includes weekends and holidays.
- Temporary position until Mar 1, 2022, with the possibility of an extension.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the breakfast is ready to be served
- Gather all items needed – food, to-go boxes, Rubbermaid containers, etc
- Fill to-go boxes containers
- Arrange to-go boxes in a container
- Make coffee
- Prepare meals for meal program according to the menu provided.
- Ensure efficient delivery of all food services during shift.
- Dining hall
- May assist to ensure dining room is set up for each meal
- Wash dishware, silverware, pots and pans and other kitchen equipment
- Delivery of items

- Help load and or unload deliveries
- May deliver prepared meals off-site

- Follow procedures for appropriate disposal of food waste and cleanliness of kitchen and dining room.
- Participate in scheduled food services procedures for cleaning and preventative maintenance.
- Adhere to inventory control of food and equipment.
- Adhere to principles/directives of Food Safe in storage, handling, and preparation of food.
- Ensure the appropriate disposal of food waste following regulations.
- Prepare sandwiches for in house and school kid’s lunches
- Help the cook where needed
- Ability to lift more than 14 Kilograms/30 pounds
- Deliver and pick up food from various Vendors
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:
- No specific academic education required must be able to read and write
- CPR, First Aid, and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset
- Current valid BC driver’s license and clean driving record an asset
- Class 5 Drivers license
Experience:
- Preference is given to those who have prior kitchen/restaurant helper experience
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Food Safe 1 basic required
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
- Ability to lift more than 30 pounds
- Agreeable to a flexible, non-routine schedule
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Records Review Program
- Clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
