As the Associate Complaints Director, you will utilize your communication skills to provide direct assistance to the Complaints Director (CD) in carrying out duties as mandated by the Health Professions Act (HPA).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the CD and in cooperation with the Director, Professional Conduct:
Prepare written decision letters including review of investigation reports, follow-up with Complaint Navigator and/or Investigator, and provide feedback on application of CPSA Standards of Practice, Code of Conduct, and other relevant legislation.
Collaborate with Investigators to ensure investigation report findings provide clear reasons of explanation and empathy for complainant.
Assist the CD with investigation of complex files:
Complete all necessary steps of investigation, prepare investigation report, ensure files are organized and all priority items are addressed according to department standards.
Complete all required correspondence meeting established timelines.
Complete Resolve with Consent process on files after investigation:
Work directly with complainant and respondent physician to resolve issues identified in Investigation Report.
Ensure resolution is consistent with department philosophy and pursuant to section 55(2)(a.1) of the HPA, and obtain consent from both parties.
Serve as designate for CD in their absence:
Respond to requests and coordinate required responses, and chairing the file review meeting.
For the NWT, be formally recognized as responsible when CD is unavailable.
Assist CD with files scheduled for hearing as assigned, including follow-up on requests from legal counsel for additional information.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Specialized professional skills typically obtained through a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in law, plus professional certificate in area of specialty or equivalent, or additional classes in specialized area.
Experience:
Requirement for 5 to 8 years of related experience.
Skills:
Excellent communication and professionalism required.
Experience in mediation/arbitration would be an asset.
