ABOUT THE POSITION

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is seeking a Development Coordinator to join our team. This position will have the exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and prospective donors to support a diverse events portfolio with a specific focus on supporting signature events within the Chinese Canadian community.

ABOUT YOU

You have at least 3 years of experience in a related, generalist function, and are fluent in Cantonese and English, including reading and writing (and preferably speak Mandarin as well). You have previous experience working for a charity, have taken or are enrolled in fundraising courses and are excited to get your fundraising career moving forward. You have great oral and written communication skills, are organized and highly efficient. You are keen to learn new skills and want to work at an organization that allows room to grow in your role. You are a team player and can also work well independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with the Events Officers, supports the work of the some of the Society’s events, in particular the events within the Chinese Canadian community.
  • Supporting Society-wide corporate sponsorship activities, including prospecting, communications and preparation of proposals and fulfillment reports.
  • Coordinating online fundraising, updating donor database including running queries/reports and problem solving.
  • Assisting with development of written content for web and print purposes.
  • Translating materials and publications.
  • Soliciting in-kind donations.
  • Customer service liaison, ambassador for the Society, communications and donor contact.
  • Helps identify mid, major and planned giving donors by building relationships within existing portfolio.
  • Maintaining technical data including web uploads.
  • Assisting in the coordination of volunteer participation, including recruitment and training.
  • Other duties as required to meet the needs of the role in relation to organizational goals.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree and 3-5 years of experience or an equivalent of education and experience.
  • As a customer service liaison and ambassador for the Society, utilizes problem solving skills and  has the ability to interact with volunteers and donors with skill, tact, discretion and compassion.
  • Experience with online fundraising events, or a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and translation skills, both verbal and written, in English and Cantonese (and preferably in Mandarin as well).
  • Familiarity with databases (Raiser’s Edge, Luminate Online, Raisin) or an aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member; flexibility and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent project coordination and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel for Windows.
  • Previous knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and/or related dementias is an asset.
  • As this is an events position, occasional weekend and evening work will be required.
