Description
The Food Bank Worker provides support to the food bank program provided by Whitby Community and Family Services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Food Bank
- Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations food for the Food Bank program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution
- Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area, if needed assist with food drives
- Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect
- Ensure that program fliers and resource materials are stocked and available for distribution
- Receive and process applications and telephone calls for the hamper program
- Assist with pick-up and delivery of food and donations from/to donors and clients using program vehicle
- Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner
Health and Safety
- Adherence to all health and safety standards
- Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in regard to organization, appearance, maintenance and general cleanliness and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment,
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- Completed Secondary School
- Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience working in community-based programs, including experience working with multi-barriered persons
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Power Point
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement
- Self-motivated/disciplined
- Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible
- Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment
- Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Must be available for full 8 weeks of program
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring
HOURS: 35 hours per week. Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and includes a 1-hour unpaid meal break.
