HOURS:
- Temporary On Call
- Up to 35 hours/week within Monday to Friday work hours: 8:30am to 4:00pm
Start Date: June 28th, 2021
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Caseworker provides crisis and ongoing supportive Bible-based support, case work and referral services, to individuals and/or their families.
- The Caseworker is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with the Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver’s core values, ensure neighbour safety as required, demonstrate team collaboration and provide support to our neighbours in an efficient, professional and confidential manner.
- Supports, advocates for and refers neighbours/families in helping empower them to become more self-sufficient, and help them re-integrate into the greater community.
- Refers spiritual support and prayer to the chaplain and extends invitations to community programs whenever appropriate.
- Conducts initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the individual.
- Through crisis and ongoing empathetic, supportive listening and coaching, assists individuals in determining appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal achievement processes through the Pathway of Hope program; facilitates effective problem-solving behaviours of the neighbour/family.
- Provides a variety of casework duties, including analysis of data, progress reports, statistical recordings, formulation of treatment plans and implementation of the treatment, consistent with program policies.
- May perform front line intake case work such as issuing Thrift Store vouchers for clothes and household goods.
- Participates in case management meetings for the benefit of individuals served.
- Acts as a resource for church/community ministries staff.
- Recommends and assists in the development of new program/policy initiatives to address ongoing neighbour needs.
- Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate files/case notes.
- Prepares written reports as requested by other agencies or individuals, following receipt of individual’s endorsed disclosure authorization and in accordance with internal policies and procedures.
- Completes and submits incident reports for incidents occurring while on duty.
- May provide supervision to students on placement or to volunteers.
- Networks with The Salvation Army, government and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of neighbours.
- Conducts educational and therapeutic groups for neighbours/families, as appropriate.
- Regularly attends to self-care through appropriate de-briefing, etc.
- Actively pursues personal and professional development through reading relevant texts and professional journals, attending relevant workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.
- Works in accordance with the Code of Ethics the incumbent may hold with a professional association; ensures full compliance with child protection legislation and intervenes when necessary.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of computer work, occasionally leading meetings/training
CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:
- The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of computer/word processing, attentive listening, and alertness to escalated reactions of clients.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES:
- The incumbent may receive monetary donations and process to business department according to operating policies. The incumbent may also be responsible for handling gift cards according to operating policies.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES:
- The incumbent may be responsible for overseeing practicum students and volunteers and may demonstrate work methods to new and temporary employees.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the community ministries office and community.
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
- Angry and abusive people
- Work-related stress
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illnesses due to:
- Physical attacks by others (i.e. violent/aggressive client)
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Other potentially dangerous situations
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

- Self-Care/Debriefing
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- The successful job applicant will have completed an Undergraduate University degree (e.g., B.A., B.Sc. B.Sc.N.).
Experience:
- Experience working with marginalized communities
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Strong communication skills – written and interpersonal
- Organizational skills – scheduling, proposals, case management
- Technological skills – G-suite, Microsoft Office and other software systems
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean driver’s abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
