Job Description
HIEC is seeking an experienced Manager of Finance and Administration with leadership, team, and relationship building skills. This full time position will work with a collaborative, passionate and energetic team to help scale the organization’s financial processes and meet the organization’s mandate. This important role will ensure that the organization’s Finance, Accounting and Bookkeeping systems support the effective delivery of HIEC programs and services.
This position will support organization-wide financial strategy, compliance and infrastructure including financial administration and budgeting, grant and project set up, funding tracking and reporting. You will provide strategic direction and immediate and long-term financial, operations and administrative function execution (including IT, finance, HR, legal, contracts) as well as ensure full-cycle accounting processes are completed in a timely manner.
The Manager of Finance and Administration will be responsible for ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting and provide analytical detail on financial results, identify process issues and implement improvements. As a member of the management team, the Manager of Finance and Administration will have exceptional team work abilities and work closely with the ED, Director of Operations, Management Team, Finance Committee, Board of Directors, and external Auditors.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Set, manage, analyze budgets

Business model analysis

Financial statements and performance analysis

Responsible for full cycle accounting including receivables, payables, expenses, payroll management including employee benefit administration

Oversee and manage the day-to-day banking, account balances and monitor cash flow, including forecasting and reporting

Prepare monthly and annual operating budgets, month-end reporting packages, bank reconciliation for distribution to the management team

Achieve budget objectives by scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and data, communicating financial metrics to management/project staff and respond to auditor inquiries

Assist in financial forecasting and scenario planning by creating and assessing financial statements and budget documents

Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends to assist with managing contracts and funder relationship management, including funding submissions

Input accounting entries into SAGE 50 Cloud and maintain accounting records in an accurate and timely fashion

Assist in ensuring adequate cash flow to meet the organization’s needs

Guiding financial decisions by reviewing and monitoring policies and procedures and internal controls

Assist in completing charitable tax return filings in a timely manner

Assist in the execution of project initiatives including the financial processes and internal control improvements required for scaling

Overseeing operational and administrative needs as required

Assist in the preparation of the annual financial statements in accordance with Canadian GAAP and federal, provincial and other required supplementary schedules and information.

Ongoing knowledge of federal and provincial legislation, CRA practices and industry updates affecting charities will be required
Qualifications to succeed:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline.

Accounting designation CPA (CGA, CMA or CA) is preferred, or working towards a professional designation CPA (CGA, CMA or CA), or an equivalent combination of related experience and education.

Minimum 5 years accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial management role and the not for profit sector

Tech savvy, with high proficiency in a wide range of cloud solutions/ business information systems: SAGE 50, Moneris, CIVICRM, Google Apps, and an interest/awareness in system integration and automation to streamline internal systems

Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills

Exceptional analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills

Demonstrated resilience, self-awareness, openness, integrity, curiosity and innovative thinking

Compensation & Benefits: Compensation is determined by the experience and skills you bring to the team.
Working Conditions: Work is usually performed with-in a standard office environment, based out of the HIEC’s Burlington office.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, work may be performed as a combination of working with-in the HIEC Office and working remotely from home or other suitable location, with a full phased return to the office planned in accordance with guidance from public health authorities
