Sexual Violence Education Advisor

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Dean of Students, the incumbent develops and implements educational programs and activities related to harm reduction for the McGill community and acts as the central liaison with all groups on campus engaged in prevention and intervention. The incumbent delivers training programs and workshops to increase the awareness and competency of staff, students and faculty and to improve support for survivors of sexual assault and response to incidents of sexual assault and other forms of harm. Areas of focus may include: consent, safe space, a culture of healthy sexuality, sexual assault, substance abuse, and gender issues. In addition, the incumbent supports the development of other programs and initiatives of the Office for Sexual Violence Response, Support and Education such as assisting with events, communications and outreach activities that complement and enhance educational programs.

Primary Responsibilities:
Oversees the functioning of Peer Educator team including recruitment, training, and student support.

Develop and manage the #Consent McGill yearly campus-wide campaign.

Develop, manage and deliver training

Develop and Manage Assessment tools.

Participate in developing and maintaining branding and communication

Case Management for Survivors of Sexual Violence:
Conduct assessments and provide individual support to individuals who have experienced sexual violence.

Maintain individuals’ files in accordance with and internal policies and standards.

Provide information/guidance and support to McGill staff and faculty members who are responding to disclosures

Collaboration with Stakeholders on campus and across the broader community

Represent the University on relevant internal and external committees

Act as a resource and advisor to other groups across campus

Support other communication activities and events of the OSVRSE as required (e.g. special programs and events, annual report, etc.)

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

A degree in social/human services. Certification in ASIST and member of Professional Order (OTSTCFQ) an asset. Minimum 3 years related work experience. Experience working in a university context considered an asset. Competence in intersectional, feminist, and anti-oppressive responses to sexual violence. Leadership, time management, organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Experience with suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and post-traumatic stress. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent conflict resolution skills and abilities. Ability to work independently, yet collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the Office of the Dean of Students and the broader McGill community, including Student Services. Experience working with groups and proven ability to promote teamwork. Ability to work with students and diverse populations. Ability to work with the effects of sexual violence on individuals and communities. Ability to work with various community and professional services. Experience with crisis intervention assessment and safety planning required. An understanding of the McGill context and policies is an asset. An understanding of the criminal justice system is an asset. Proficiency in both English and French is essential.

Bachelor’s Degree 3 Years Related Experience /

Annual Salary:
(MPEX Grade 05) $63,140.00 – $94,700.00
