Job Title: Mechanical Technologist
Job Description
As a Mechanical Technologist, you will play a crucial role in conducting mechanical and electrical testing, research, and development activities. You will support testing projects across various disciplines including mechanical, electrical, chemical, materials science, and non-destructive testing. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a world-renowned testing facility.
Responsibilities
- Conduct mechanical and electrical testing, research, and development activities.
- Prepare samples for testing, including installing compression connectors and epoxy resin terminations.
- Carry out test setups and executions while applying mechanical and electrical knowledge.
- Install and repair equipment, instrumentation, and test fixtures as needed.
- Maintain the cleanliness, functionality, and organization of test laboratories.
- Promote customer satisfaction through high-quality and safe work practices.
- Handle administrative tasks such as document processing and maintaining records.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support operations.
Essential Skills
- Engineering Degree or Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Mechanical preferred).
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment.
- Experience working with tools and being hands-on.
- Experience in Electrical Testing.
- Experience working in a test environment focusing on quality or conformance to standards.
- Understanding of Energy Sector, specifically cables and overhead lines.
- Ability to lift 30lbs or more.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with LabView.
- Crane Rigging or Forklift Certification.
- Experience with wire testing, stress-strain, vibration testing, creep, epoxy prep, tensile testing, hot & cold testing.
- Knowledge of testing standards: ISO 9001, ISO (Test Labs QA), ASTM, ANSI, IEC, IEEE, CSA.
- Strong teamwork skills and an active learner who is curious about processes.
Work Environment
You will be part of a diverse and talented team in a state-of-the-art laboratory located at the Kipling Facility in Etobicoke. The team consists of 15 staff members, including lab technologists and engineers. The core working hours are from 8:30 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility. The facility is renowned for its focus on transmission and distribution testing, offering exposure to a variety of exciting projects and cutting-edge technology.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Etobicoke, Ontario.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 – $50.00/hr.
Workplace Type
This is a fully onsite position in Etobicoke,ON.
