CNC Operator

Location: Guelph, ON

Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:45 PM (Overtime after 40 hours; occasional Saturdays as needed)

Type: Full-time, Direct Hire

Pay: $30–$35 per hour

Express Employment Professionals – Guelph is hiring on behalf of a well-established woodworking and manufacturing company for an experienced CNC Operator – Homag 5 Axis.

This is a direct hire, long-term role for a skilled professional with CNC programming and machining experience using Alphacam software.

A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required, as the 6:00 AM start time is before public transit begins.

About the Role

The CNC Operator will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating Homag 5 Axis CNC machinery to produce high-quality wood components according to design specifications. This role involves reading technical drawings, programming tool paths, maintaining equipment, and ensuring final product accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Homag 5 Axis CNC machinery
  • Program CNC machines using CAD/CAM software, specifically Alphacam
  • Load raw materials and monitor machine operations for performance and quality
  • Perform basic machine maintenance and tooling changes to minimize downtime
  • Read and interpret production drawings and design models
  • Input product designs into CNC software and adjust cutting paths as required
  • Inspect finished components to ensure quality standards are met
  • Conduct quality control tests during and after production
  • Maintain inventory of tools, drill bits, and necessary supplies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with machinery or materials
  • Collaborate with production team members to meet daily and weekly goals
  • Follow all company health and safety procedures
  • Lift and handle up to 4’x8’ sheets of plywood (shop is equipped with assist cranes)
  • Use table saws, calipers, measuring tapes, and general woodworking tools

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating CNC machinery (Homag 5 Axis preferred)
  • Proficiency in Alphacam or similar CAD/CAM programming software
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Understanding of machining processes, tooling, and quality standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Physically capable of lifting materials (up to 50 lbs with assistance when needed)
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (required due to early start time)
  • Reliable, team-oriented, and committed to maintaining a safe workplace
