Articling Student

Overview:
We are the Ontario Energy Board – Ontario’s independent energy regulator. We work to ensure a sustainable, reliable energy sector that helps consumers get value from their natural gas and electricity services – for today and tomorrow.

We are currently seeking a collaborative individual with a keen interest in administrative and energy law to join our team as an Articling Student. Under the supervision of the Articling Principal, the Articling Student will provide legal support and develop hands-on legal skills by working with a team of legal and other professionals across the organization in various areas of law.

Responsibilities:
General legal advice and assistance on issues related to applications, compliance, corporate governance, regulation, privacy, policy initiatives and legal aspects of the OEB’s activities

Participate in hearings before the OEB

Draft OEB legal documents

Conduct legal research and draft legal opinions

Participate in the identification of any potential implications of, or risks associated with, changes in law, operations, processes, policies or contracts

Qualifications:
Completion of the prerequisites required to participate in the Law Society of Ontario Articling Program starting September 2021

Interest in administrative and energy law

Superior written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

Strong analytical, organization and problem-solving skills

Adaptability to work effectively and cooperatively in a variety of situations and with various individuals and/or multi-disciplinary groups, including remotely

Compensation:
$39/hr ($73,515 annualized)

Start date and Duration:
September 2021 – June 2022 (10 months)
