Giant Tiger has recently centralized the Learning & Development function within the HR department. We are creating a new Manager Learning & Development role to lead the centralized L&D function. The purpose of the Manager, Learning & Development role is to develop learning and development programming that creates observable skill improvement so that employees can effectively perform their roles. The Manager Learning & Development will also provide consultative services across the organization to design and develop impactful learning experiences based on principles of adult education.
The role reports to the Director, Talent & Development. The position can operate from any location in Canada that is on Eastern Standard Time. The position will require monthly travel to the Giant Tiger Home Office in Ottawa.
Key Deliverables
Develop Leadership & Teamwork Training Curriculum
Co-develop a curriculum of courses with the Director Talent & Development and SMEs from business units to train Team Leaders and Team Members in the skills required to improve team performance
Lead the design and development of the Leadership & Teamwork course content/materials for delivery in multiple channels i.e. classroom, online, on-the-job projects, etc.
Plan and execute the implementation of the Leadership & Teamwork training curriculum
Review the Leadership & Teamwork training curriculum on an annual basis to recommend improvements to course design and training materials
Consult on Development of Business-Specific Learning & Development Programming
Consult with managers to jointly identify opportunities to create learning and development solutions to address skills and knowledge gaps for across business areas and departments
Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) advice to managers and HR colleagues on how to develop and facilitate training based on concepts and principles of adult education
Manage L&D Vendor Contracts and Relationships
Select external vendors to purchase, develop and/or deliver training content/services to leverage external expertise and resource capacity as needed
Assess the quality of services provided by vendors against expected service quality standards and address gaps in service quality as needed
Advise on budget and track spend for L&D vendor spending
Implement Applications to Improve the Learning Experience
Conduct a gap analysis of the ability for the current LMS to meets the needs of users
Direct the implementation of an LMS application that meets users needs
Develop the Company’s Learning Management System (LMS) application as needed to meet users needs
Research and propose technology applications to improve the online learner experience and the effectiveness of learning programs
Experience
5+ years of experience in learning and development
Experience working as an internal consultant developing and implementing L&D initiatives
Experience designing and developing training content such as course materials for participants and trainers (train-the-trainer courses)
Experience using e-learning tools such as Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, etc.
Experience facilitating training courses and learning sessions
Experience implementing and administering Learning Management System applications
Experience working as a Manager with a team of direct reports is an asset
Experience in the Retail sector is an asset
Knowledge and Skills
Expert understanding and application of adult learning concepts and principles
Able to effectively inform, explain and persuade through spoken and written communication with a wide range of audiences in diverse settings
Strong project planning and execution skills
Knowledge of Systems Leadership or Requisite Organization theory and practice is an asset
French language skills are an asset
Qualifications
University Degree in any discipline or equivalent experience
Professional certification in Adult Learning/Instructional Design or equivalent experience
