Job Description
Participates in managing products and services to ensure that each generates maximum financial contribution while satisfying market needs and the Corporation’s service mandate. Develops integrated multi-functional implementation strategies and plans for approved product modification, product development and pricing programs by specifying or participating in the establishing of the required operating budgets and program deliverable (e.g. operating and financial systems, labour agreements or changes to labour practices, sales and communications support programs, etc.) by all corporate functions to ensure the Corporation’s capability and readiness for the market introduction of product and pricing changes. Monitors and assesses corporate effectiveness in the implementation of approved product modification, product development, pricing and recommends required corrective actions to be initiated by the responsible corporate functions as required.
Job Responsibilities
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Assistant Product Manager.
Participates in the planning and development of the Corporation’s product modification, new product development, pricing strategies to achieve corporate revenue, volume, market share, product cost containment and reduction, customer mail preparation and net financial contribution goals for products and services.
Through ongoing liaison with other corporate functions, identifies current and future market and operating opportunities and threats and prepares assessments of forecasts impacts on the Corporation’s market, service and financial goals for products and services.
Assesses proposed initiatives and plans of all corporate functions and the Divisions to determine their acceptability vis-à-vis, and their impact on, the Corporation’s products strategies, plans and objectives.
Prepares detailed multi-functional Corporate Product Operating Plans and operating budgets which translate approved product strategies and objectives for products and services into the specific functional activities necessary to develop and implement the operating and financial systems, procedures and infrastructures to implement all aspects of the plan.
Assists in the implementation of the multi-functional plans to ensure that new products and services are carefully launched and revenue targets achieved.
Job Responsibilities (continued)
Assesses pricing options for products and services and prepares detailed rate proposals for the Corporation’s annual rate action.
Develops and recommends sales contract pricing proposals for products and services and supports Sales and Customer Service staff in the concluding of approved agreements with customers.
Participates in the development of market share, revenue and volume, cost containment and reduction, customer mail preparation and net financial contribution targets for products and services for the setting of Corporate goals and the development of the Corporate Operating Plan.
Specifies information requirements, market and operating studies and analyzes to evaluate the market, service and financial performance of products and services against corporate goals and prepares assessments of variances form corporate goals.
Maintains extensive contacts with Division management to monitor the effectiveness of implementation of product and pricing strategies and plans.
Meets with major customers and national customer associations to gain customer feedback regarding the need for product improvements and/or the impact of possible product and pricing changes.
Qualifications
Education
- Completed post-secondary, preferably in a related field such as Marketing, Business Administration, Commerce, Business Analytics.
Experience
- 2 to 3 years of relevant functional experience.
Other Candidate Requirements
- Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong communication, analytical, and customer service skills.
- One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset.
- Knowledge of postal convention, regulations and agreements an asset.
- Excellent understanding of marketing and customer data, targeting and campaign measurement.

This is a 6 month term position with the possibility of extension or permanency.
