Coordinator, Student Support

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Director, Student Affairs, the Student Support Coordinator promotes and coordinates campus-wide student support programming and case management which emphasizes student development and encourages academic success, resiliency and retention. The Student Support Coordinator is responsible for designing, developing, supporting and facilitating various elements of student support programming for at-risk students.

In all aspects, the Student Support Coordinator will work highly collaboratively with [Campus Partners] such as Faculty, Student Services, Academic Advising, the Academic Success Centre, Counselling, the Centre for Accessibility Services, and other professional units and colleagues from across campus.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)

Uses best practices and current developments in Student Development Theory as a foundational framework to inform their professional practice.

Designs and delivers cohesive and integrated student development programs supporting at-risk students in partnership with Campus Partners.

Liaises with Campus Partners to promote, initiate and/or coordinate student support programming for at-risk students.

Develops, coordinates, and evaluates the transition programs for at-risk students with Campus Partners.

Develops, coordinates and evaluates an intervention program for at-risk students.

Case management of students identified as at-risk.

Develops and coordinates of an at-risk student Peer Support (PSP) Program.

Develops and delivers an annual training program for student leaders who volunteer for the PSP.

Effectively referring to, and coordinating with, relevant services and colleagues on campus.

Contributes strategic leadership and vision to at-risk student programming, including guidelines, development and expectations based on national (e.g. Council for Advancement of Standards in Higher Education) and local standards.

Reviews and analyzes relevant survey results with Institutional Research to provide insight/recommendations on policy and programming to the Director, Student Life & Development to increase student retention.

Develops, implements and evaluates student development and engagement programming that supports the students’ life skills, academic goals, and holistic well-being.

Prepares promotional communications regarding Student Support programs.

Composes key messages in collaboration with Transitions and Orientation for targeted prospective students relating to Student Support programs.

Establishes relationships with professionals in the field, and actively engaging with other post-secondary institutions and student services organizations doing related work to develop knowledge and share best practices within student support for at-risk students.

Qualifications

An undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution;

A minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience in at-risk student programming and support at the post-secondary level;

A proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to participate in consultative decision-making;

Demonstrated skills and experience in program design and delivery, including associated training and program evaluation;

Demonstrated knowledge of the many social, cultural, and economic issues which affect individual’s access to and persistence in post-secondary education, including an awareness of the unique barriers and challenges Indigenous students experience;

Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment;

Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations;

Experience in designing, promoting, and delivering peer-to-peer support programs;

Strong presentation and facilitation skills;

Strong organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication, and excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills;

Excellent knowledge of MS Office and web applications; and

The ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
