The First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) is currently looking for a dedicated,
energetic and organized Special Education Coach to join our hard working team who work
collaboratively and diligently to improve education for all First Nations students in BC.
The Special Education Coach is part of a multi-disciplinary team and is responsible for providing
special education support services directly to students, staff, and community members associated
with BC First Nations schools.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist school personnel in the development and implementation of individual education plans
and the collaborative team process;
Provide information/training about relevant special education programs and services to
school personnel and community members;
Ability to conduct Level B assessments complete with reports and recommendations;
Collaborate with the FNESC multi-disciplinary team assigned to the school.
Research new trends and materials in the field of special education;
Provide professional development through presentations and workshops in schools, trainings
and conferences as assigned;
Other projects as assigned by the Director, Special Education.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
Bachelor of Education, including Special Education certification and training, and BC Teacher
Regulation Branch certification
Three or more years of experience working in the field of Special Education and/or at a
variety of grade levels. Experience working with First Nations in the field of education an
asset
Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills to work in a First Nations environment
Comprehensive understanding of First Nations education issues and First Nations issues in
British Columbia
Flexibility to travel to First Nations schools throughout British Columbia. Possession of a valid
Class 5 driver’s license
Hours:
This is a full time/part time contract position with hours during the school year. The Employee shall
perform his/her duties at such places and during such times as may be reasonably necessary.
Location:
Regionally based within the province of BC.
