The Opportunity
We are looking for an ECI Education and Awareness Facilitator to join the Office of the Vice President, Equity and Community Inclusion (OVPECI). The ECI Education and Awareness Facilitator provides consultation, expertise and support for the identification, development and delivery of equity, diversity and inclusion related educational programs and outreach initiatives, with a focus on the promotion and removal of barriers for marginalized and underrepresented groups on campus.

The position facilitates and delivers EDI skills development sessions with emphasis on changing the environment, aligned to university and department priorities, by providing ongoing consultation and learning opportunities in a collaborative, innovative manner for academic and administrative leaders, groups of employees, individual employees, students and the university community. The position also maintains strong working partnerships with academic, administrative and student clients, to provide guidance for and/or to facilitate learning and development initiatives in relation to EDI and anti-racism and in agreement with OVPECI guidelines and principles. This position reports directly to the Executive Director, Office of the Vice President, Equity and Community Inclusion.

  • Required to occasionally work after hours and weekends to deliver classroom presentations, attend events, etc.

Work Location
This role is expected to work from home while Ryerson is operating on an essential services model due to COVID-19 until further notice. At that point, the role will then be required to work on campus, or a combination of on campus and home.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a post-secondary degree in education, sociology, social work, psychology or closely-related field, with a focus on anti-racism, anti-oppression, social justice, training and development, adult learning, organizational development, or psychology.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in developing and delivering training programs as well as designing and implementing education and awareness programming with an emphasis on equity, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and human rights. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Knowledge of the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, social justice, human rights, discrimination, harassment; and strong understanding of complex issues related to equity, diversity and inclusion as they relate to the student experience and the workplace.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles; social justice education; culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy; critical race theory and/or participatory teaching and learning approaches
  • Knowledge and experience working with students, youth, leadership and related programming
  • Successful completion or working towards the completion of a Certificate in Training and Development, the Certified Training and Development Practitioners Designation (CTDP), and/or a PMP certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Human Rights Code and relevant legislation
  • Strong verbal communication skills including excellent delivery and facilitation skills and strong written communication skills including writing, proofreading and editing skills
  • Excellent coaching, consulting, problem solving, diagnostic and evaluative skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a high degree of tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent administration, coordination, planning, organizing and implementation skills
  • Strong marketing skills and the ability to plan large and small successful events;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet multiple competing deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using Google Workspace; MS Office; audio-visual and multimedia equipment and materials; social media channels. In addition, conducting internet research and basic website maintenance.
