Instructor, Education Assistant and Community Support Worker

The School of Health and Human Services invites applications for an instructor position to teach in the Education Assistant and Community Support Worker (EACSW) Program. Under the supervision of the School Chair, the successful applicant will have the education and experience to facilitate students to acquire the competencies for entry to practice and provide both classroom and practicum instruction.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Provide classroom instruction to first year EACSW students and be available for student consultation

Supervise and support practicum education for EACSW students in K-12 school and community placements

Foster practice partner and College relationships

Communicate with practice partners to ensure common understanding of learning outcomes of practicum

Review and update curriculum to ensure currency and relevance

Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback

Participate in instructional team meetings and contribute to curriculum dialogue to ensure course and program currency and relevancy

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Active engagement of students in a variety of face-to-face and online learning strategies

Create and maintain a positive and respectful learning environment

Confidence in use of the Moodle learning management system

Expertise in relational practice and team work

Knowledge of person-centered planning theories and application to school-based teams and in community settings

Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Special Education or a closely related field*

Three – five years of current, recent, and relevant professional practice on school and community-based teams working with clients experiencing complex needs in executive functioning

Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary setting is an asset

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

This is a regular, part-time (60%) position commencing August 2, 2021 and ending July 31, 2022. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement, Schedule A. The salary range is $2,322.62 – $3,732.19 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
