The Scotiabank Strategy group is a central team focused on driving the design, execution, and the ongoing management of Scotiabank’s strategic planning process and the Bank’s strategic agenda. Reporting to the VP, International Banking & Digital Strategy the Director will be part of the International Banking & Digital Strategy, part component of the Strategy team. The International Banking Strategy group is focused on Scotiabank’s international operations in 39 countries, but with a clear focus on the Pacific Alliance countries: Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile.
In this capacity, the Director is part of a growing, high performing team that develops and executes strategy at an enterprise, business line and country level of the bank. The Director works closely with senior management, business line and country leaders and a diverse set of stakeholders to deliver strategic advice that solves business problems through research, analysis, compelling strategic recommendations and execution monitoring.
Accountabilities
Lead teams of senior managers, managers and analysts from the Scotiabank Strategy Unit and in-country teams in providing customized strategy development and advisory support; including research, analysis, issue identification and preparing compelling strategic recommendations that solve business problems. Most projects will be held in-country and may require some travel. This could take 2 approaches:
Low-touch support; where the team will be providing advisory services, e.g., participating at the steering committees for key initiatives, engaging in specific work streams of the project
High-touch support; where the team will be on-the-ground driving strategy development in specific areas / businesses within the Pacific Alliance countries and/or divisional projects
Create comprehensive project plans, coordinated with country teams, to ensure deliverables and timelines are met by all work streams and members of the team
Lead central and in-country teams to gather relevant data and perform financial analyses to diagnose issues
Lead central and in-country teams to structure and create financial models to assess future state financial benefits / costs
Synthesize findings and present clear recommendations and implementation plans to ensure impactful project outcomes to senior leaders within the International Banking Division and the countries
Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including senior leaders in the countries to support the achievement of deliverables and overall objectives
Partner with senior leaders & In-country heads in the International Banking division to help them design their long-term vision and strategy
Communicate International Banking strategic plan and strategic priorities with the countries, in coordination with PC&A
Drive the design and execution of the implementation of the strategy plan in coordination with countries to ensure alignment
Provide support to defining the key performance indicators and targets for the International Banking Group Strategy; set and keep track of Divisional BSC and senior leaders’ APPs, including Country Heads
Complete competitive / business environment research and benchmarking to determine emerging issues and trends and analyze the impact / implications of those trends on the International Banking Division and country-specific strategic plans
Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Qualifications
MBA, PhD or relevant post-graduate degree
Experience in management consulting or corporate strategy development, execution and project management; banking industry expertise is highly recommended
Wide on-the-ground international experience working in Pacific Alliance countries
Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, challenging and dynamic business environment
Superior interpersonal skills, leadership and influencing capabilities on a multi-cultural environment
Self-motivated; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multi-functional and in-country teams
Exceptional planning and analytical skills, ability to discern research information / data and focus on the critical business and country-specific issues
Highly developed relationship management skills to effectively manage relationships across the Bank, International Banking division, Pacific Alliance countries, partners and external vendors
Exceptional presentation and written communication skills
Spanish language fluency is an asset
Proven track record delivering innovative solutions from concept to change management
Excellent knowledge with MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
