JOB SUMMARY:

  • Collaborate as a member of a dynamic, energetic leadership team committed to providing the best services to adults every day.
  • Lead, manage direct support staff to ensure the duties associated with the day services programs are carried out.
  • Apply leadership skills including motivating employees, conflict resolution, negotiation, delegation, and crisis management.
  • Ensure personal support plans have been identified and established for each supported individual in accordance with their personal preferences and the concepts of community involvement and personal outcome measures.
  • Ensure the development of community opportunities for people supported, linking people to community options, and establishing inclusive options based on their individual goals.
  • Ensure support provided to people is respectful of their dignity, rights, and emotional and physical well-being.
  • Promote people’s inclusion and participation in the community through the establishment of relationships, and development of social, recreational, leisure, cultural, educational, and community-based activities.
  • Ensures the provision of supports to people that broaden opportunities for learning and growth, deepen connections with the community, explore opportunities for paid and volunteer work, create meaningful and resilient relationships and activate and engage informal support networks.
  • Ensures the establishment of environments that are tailored to and safe for the individual based on strengths/needs of each person supported and in adherence to policies and procedures as specified and required. 
  • Respond and change departmental plans based on changing goals and priorities.
  • Communicate with and serve as a liaison to families, members of the public, community groups and other services.
  • Development of community partner database
  • Participate in budget development and monitor all expenditures to ensure the effective use of all resources and accountability for expenditure in assigned areas.
  • Ensures that the programs operate in a professional and efficient manner in compliance with CLAPW policies and philosophies.
  • Collaborate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Present to small and large groups, including businesses and prospective community partners taking the lead in building bridges with the community with the aim to bring positive and truly inclusive opportunities for people served.
  • Ensure program compliance with Municipal By-Laws, Fire Code, Health & Safety, and Developmental Services Act requirements.
  • Assuming emergency on-call rotation duties as required.
  • Assume temporary management of alternate programs when required.
  • Contribute to and participate on Association and Community committees.
  • Model exemplary professional communication, and respectful engagement with supported individuals.
  • Attend team meetings and training events.
  • Monitor performance of direct support staff on an ongoing basis and formally appraise, at least annually, the performance of each staff based on job description and established goals.
  • Recommend training and development for support staff.
  • Meet regularly with direct support staff, supervisory team, interdisciplinary team, and Senior Manager of Operations to review program needs and all aspects of service.
  • Revise job descriptions as necessary in collaboration with the Human Resources
  • Hire and provide orientation and training to full-time, part-time, and students to meet ongoing needs.
  • Perform various administrative duties (i.e., financial, health & safety, medication, property inspections, progress reports) as required.
  • Complete quarterly and monthly inspections
  • Ensure all compliance documentation is completed on time throughout the course of the year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a social service organization supporting the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in the community.
  • Ability to relate to people with an intellectual disability and a deep commitment to the values of inclusion and community living.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of developmental services and applicable legislation
  • Familiar with the challenges and barriers people with disabilities experience
  • Experience working with families, advocates, other services, and community leaders.
  • Experience in working as a part of a multidisciplinary team.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maturity and flexibility, good personal judgement in dealing with people.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing persuasively, and in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work effectively in a managerial role.
  • Ability to work independently and initiate new programs.
  • Can genuinely connect with and facilitate relationships between people served, the staff team, families, support networks and community partners.
  • Valid certificate in First-Aid, CPR and Safe Management is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Accessibility to a reliable vehicle that can be used on the job.
  • Demonstrated regular attendance at work.

HOURS OF WORK:  40 hours a week, primarily daytime hours with the flexibility to work occasional weekend and evening hours when necessary and to serve as an after-hours on-call Manager approximately once a month or as needed.

STARTING SALARY:  $ 69, 291.20 per year
