        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

Booth University College is looking for two ASL Interpreters who will be responsible for providing a full range of interpreting and translating services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students and facilitation of effective communication between the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals and other people in the educational environment either in a group setting or one-on-one. This environment includes the classroom, laboratory, field trip, assembly, and other educational sites that are deemed appropriate for student learning. The ASL Interpreters should have specialized education for the primary role of interpreting and be qualified to provide other educational services as required in the academic setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate communication between the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing and other individuals including Faculty, Staff, Administrators, other students or visitors, during lectures, labs, discussion groups, tutorial sessions, and any other events relevant to the Booth University College
  • Process and impart information swiftly, and relay intentions, emotions, and tone in ASL interpretations
  • Incorporate features of ASL which include: proper grammar and syntax, non-manual markers, fingerspelling is clear and appropriate, classifiers are accurate and appropriate, role-shift is used appropriately, time indicators, and topicalization
  • Incorporate features of English which include: clear articulation, appropriate intonation, spoken fluency (no filler, false starts, pausing/phrasing), and the use of tense, pronouns, verbs, nouns, and complete sentences
  • Adhere to the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) code of ethics and guidelines for professional conduct
  • Discusses evaluation outcomes with supervisor
  • Secure the preparation material required (lecture notes, print material, films, videos, resources pertaining to technical vocabulary) by corresponding with the Faculty, Staff, etc. to ensure message equivalency
  • During exam periods, administer and supervise pre-approved test/exam accommodations for students with documented disabilities and medical conditions as required for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Required
  • Satisfactory criminal record check
  • Fully supportive of the integration of faith and learning in a Christian university-level setting and a commitment to the Mission of Booth University College
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language and/or other recognized modes of communication used within the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing community
  • Successful completion of an ASL-English Interpreter education program
  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Profession Conduct as outlined by CASLI
  • Ability to function independently and as a member of the team
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate fluently and accurately in English and ASL using appropriate vocabulary, grammar, pragmatics, and discourse
  • Possesses well-developed Interpreting skills
  • Apply knowledge of the various models and theories of interpretation i.e., consecutive or simultaneous
  • Collaborate and work cooperatively with team members towards a successful interpretation
  • Apply knowledge of Deaf culture, Deaf community, cross-cultural issues, hearing culture, multicultural issues, as well as deafness and hearing loss and the implications in education
  • Proficient understanding of cultural sensitivity, and ability to collaborate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Act in a professional and culturally appropriate manner in all situations

OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience working with adult learners
  • Knowledge and understanding of accessibility supports
  • Undergraduate degree
  • Minimum of two years of experience with ASL-English interpreting with supporting documentation, preferably with experience in a post-secondary environment
