        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract

This is a permanent, part-time position based on 15-24 hours per week.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

Shifts: Scheduled within hours Monday to Wednesday & Saturday 9:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m.

Thursday & Friday 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Operational hours of this facility: Monday to Wednesday & Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.                                          Thursday & Friday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Thrift Store Worker is primarily responsible to assist in the efficient and effective reclamation, processing or distribution of donated goods for the Ingersoll Thrift Store.

  1. Operations
  • Protect the integrity of all donated items.
  • Process raw materials by loading/unloading, sorting, packing, storing, loading and baling donations.
  • Interact with customers/donors in a positive, friendly and courteous manner.
  • Contribute to meeting store sales targets; provide efficient courteous customer service; use tact and courtesy when dealing with difficult donors/customers.
  • Possess knowledge of stock prices and featured sale products in order to respond to customer enquiries.
  • Assist donors with their donations, unload donations, and place stock in appropriate warehouse locations.
  • Select donations for store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded/recycled and good quality merchandise according to company standards; ensure that all products are priced correctly as per store policy.
  • Replenish inventory levels, i.e. hang clothing and restocking of merchandise as directed
  • Pay attention to store security, by monitoring activity within the store.
  • Categorize and box seasonal clothing, bric, shoes etc. for storing.
  • Responsible for accurate completion of all customer transactions including cash and debit sales with minimal voids, overages or shortages.
  • Adhere to store policy regarding cheques, credit cards, refunds, voids and holds.
  • Abide by store policy and procedures.
  • Work with volunteers as assigned.

 

  1. Communications
  • Inform your supervisor of all donor/customer complaints, comments and concerns regarding customer service, prices, merchandise, etc.
  1. Health & Safety
  • Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, cleans spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the store).
  • Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the warehouse area, tidy up and clean, sweep, dust and mop as necessary, both inside and the exterior donation area at the rear of the building ensuring compliance with the health and safety standards. On a rotational basis clean the lunchroom, washroom and other common areas.
  • Handle the merchandise in a safe and organized manner; assist in stock rotation – “baling” items in the store. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of Secondary School.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Have a minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience in warehouse processing or good distribution and knowledge of lifting guidelines.
  • Some related experience in warehouse processing or goods distribution would be a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of lifting guidelines would be a definite asset.
  • Brand awareness would be a definite asset.
  • Basic math skills required to calculate discounts and percentages as well as reading skills.
  • Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset.

Skills and Capabilities:
