Job Description

PROJECT MANAGER, ELECTRONIC FISHERIES MONITORING

More than 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water. And where there is water, there are fish. Where there are fish, there are fishing boats. We work with those fishing boats to advance their monitoring capabilities and contribute to more sustainable fisheries around the world. In fact, we have deployed more than 750 of our electronic monitoring systems in countries all over the world over the last 20 years. If you like technology, are insanely organized, and enjoy a fast-paced, always-changing work life, then we want to meet you. But, not in person-yet. How about on a video call to start?

WHAT WILL YOU DO IN THIS ROLE?

Managing projects in the fisheries monitoring industry is a busy role and something that requires a very broad set of skills to be successful. We are not looking for someone who can check every one of the boxes below on their first day, but someone who has the right attitude and the right drive to check those boxes over time. This role has strong potential to evolve into a senior leadership role within the Monitoring Technologies division and within the Archipelago team.

As a Project Manager at Archipelago, these are some of the tasks that you can expect to see in your daily work life:

Project Management

  • Ongoing client interaction and support
  • Developing and managing project budgets and burndowns
  • Organizing internal and external timelines, events, and resources
  • Working with the leadership team to assign tasks and manage labour resources
  • Efficiently lead internal and external meetings
  • Delivery of invoices and managing client timelines for payment
  • Project report writing and general reporting on project deliverables

Business Development

  • Supporting RFP/RFI responses and grant applications
  • Client presentations
  • Client outreach and ongoing communication around new opportunities
  • Conference attendance (domestic and international)
  • Researching fishery policies and requirements across various jurisdictions

WHAT ARE WE ALL ABOUT?

We create and deploy technology for commercial fishing vessels, at-sea observers and dockside monitors to collect data and report back to our clients. This data helps manage global fisheries and ensure sustainability for generations to come. Our head office sits right on the water in Victoria (Esquimalt), British Columbia and we have offices in Alaska, Oregon, Australia, Norway and in port cities up and down the British Columbia coast.
