Community Education Liaison Worker

Satellite location: W.E. Gowling P.S.

Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week

Regular, 12 month work year

salary range: $54,133 to $69,895

effective Sept 1: $54,674 to $70,594

Reporting to the Superintendent responsible for the SATE Inquiry, the Community Education Liaison Worker will provide culturally competent and responsive supports to address students, families, and schools’ needs in identified school communities as part of the district’s Student Achievement Through Equity Inquiry (SATE). SATE is an initiative that uses research on factors known to contribute to successful schools, to reduce barriers, overcome emotional and psychological hurdles, and create the right learning conditions for students by bringing children, families and communities together as partners in the learning process.

In alignment with school and system initiatives, the Community Education Liaison Worker will coordinate and advocate community outreach and parent engagement, equity, and initiatives for students and their families in these identified school communities. There will be a requirement to work some evenings and occasional weekends to meet client needs.

Candidate Profile:
Community college diploma in social sciences (e.g., Community Worker Program), and three years of community development experience working in a community-based environment. (An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered)

Knowledge of local community resources and the capability to support students and their families to access and navigate these resources;

Strong advocacy skills to support student, parent/caregiver and community voice(s);

Effectively apply a culturally competent, anti-racist, anti-colonialism and anti-oppressive approach to solution finding;

Ability to work effectively in diverse communities;

Strong interpersonal, group facilitation, and consensus-building skills;

Knowledge and understanding of the structure and operations of the school system;

Ability to navigate and work effectively with staff at all levels of the education system;

Ability to make presentations, write reports, and proficiently use computer applications, including email and internet searches.

Ability to speak additional languages (in addition to English) would be an asset.

Valid G Drivers License and access to a personal vehicle for District business is required.
