Physical and Health Education (PHE) Curriculum Leader

Bi-Weekly Hours: 75.0 hours Bi-weekly (Beginning September 1st, 2021 until June 30th, 2024)The English Education, Programs and Services division is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and support for English language curricula, programs, services and resources for teachers and students from kindergarten to Grade 12. This position aims to facilitate curriculum development and implementation of physical education and health curriculum in Prince Edward Island schools. The Physical and Health Education Curriculum Leader works collaboratively with the Coordinator and Director and other English Education, Programs & Services team members. They will also produce and/or obtain course-specific support and resource material, and in collaboration with other leaders and staff, conduct in-service training for teachers and other department staff. Duties will include: – developing, implementing, and maintaining curriculum as necessary for K-12 physical education curriculum;- developing, implementing, and maintaining curriculum as required for K-12 health curriculum;- supporting teachers in the delivery of K-12 health/physical education;- providing leadership in organizing professional learning days for K-12 health/physical education teachers;- providing leadership, vision, and support to the Department to maximize physical education and health curriculum, programs and initiatives;- researching other physical education and health curricula, gathering information documenting the effectiveness of programs, interpreting this information, and providing constructive feedback;- when necessary, leading curriculum committees to revise or develop physical education and/or health provincial curriculum and recommend selection and adaptation of materials and resources;- identify and incorporate global competencies in the curriculum;- supporting the maintenance of the provincial physical education safety guidelines;- collaborating with the Department colleagues and education stakeholders to grow, maintain, and support province-wide policies, curricula and programs that support the development of a comprehensive school health model and sustain student well-being in a safe, accepting inclusive and healthy learning environment;- maintaining contact with relevant community and non-governmental groups and agencies taking an inclusive approach when working with diverse stakeholders;- in addition to chairing curriculum committees, represent the department on various committees;- performing other related duties as requested by the Director of English Education, Programs & Services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: – A degree in education, preferably at the Masters level, emphasizing curriculum development and/or administration. – A degree in physical education, kinesiology, or human kinetics;- Must hold, or be eligible to hold, a PEI Teacher’s certificate level 5 or higher;- Knowledge of and extensive recent experience using the provincially authorized curriculum to facilitate student and/or teacher learning of physical education or health at the K-12 level;- Knowledge of current research and best practices in instruction and assessment of physical education or health at the K-12 level;- Knowledge and understanding of multiple literacies;- Proven ability to balance various interests, think creatively, and lead teams in complex environments;- An ability to meet deadlines and handle diverse tasks simultaneously using prioritization;- Must have excellent leadership, interpersonal, team building, and communication skills,- The successful candidate must have demonstrated excellent writing skills, learning and innovation skills, and digital literacy skills;- Must have good previous attendance and work record; the successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check before beginning employment.Other Qualifications: – Experience with the provincial curriculum development process is an asset.- Educational leadership at the system level would be considered an asset.Preference will be given to UPSE Civil Employees as per the UPSE Civil Collective Agreement.Please Note: Please ensure the application clearly demonstrates how you meet the noted qualifications as applicants will be screened based on the information provided.
