Teachers – Biology

COMPETITION NUMBER

C21-22-RE-06

The College is seeking part-time and full-time professors to teach courses onsite in the 2021-2022 academic year.

FALL 2021

101-NYA-05 General Biology I

(Several Sections of General Biology – Theory and Lab)

(2 groups of 3 hours each per week of theory and 6 labs of 2 hours each per week)

The main objective of General Biology I is to view life forms as the result of the evolutionary process. By recognizing and characterizing life forms with respect to their structure, genetic features and mutual interactions with the environment, students are invited to develop an understanding of the physical, chemical and biological elements that affect life. Case studies and laboratory exercises are designed to complement the theory component of the course. Activities include field sampling, cellular microscopy, cell division, DNA polymerase chain reaction, electrophoresis, and antibiotic sensitivity testing.

HIVER 2022

101-901-HR The Human Body

(2 hours of theory and 2 labs of 1 hour each per week)

Every day we perform a balancing act. It is an amazing performance, and it goes on continually without a break or intermission. Every part of our physical body is involved in this balance that is constantly challenged by injury, disease, physical and mental stress. This course addresses how the body attempts to maintain a balanced state. It outlines the necessary integration of the body’s organ systems, develops an understanding of how the human body functions, and clearly demonstrates how the scientific method can be used to study current health issues.

101-H44-HR Human Body IV

(2 hours of theory, 1 hour of lab and 3 hours of availability per week)

Students in this course will integrate and apply theory learned in the first three Human Body courses to pathological changes of the various body systems. An exploration of common diseases will be accomplished through case study work and other such application methods. Students will also hone research skills through the investigation of patient outdoor activity. After an initial assessment, students evaluate the physical activity in terms of their ability and attitudes; they set goals and try an approach aimed at improving their motor skills, their technique or their mastery of complex strategies. Finally, students are called upon to assess their progress.

204-A08-HR Mythbusters

(1 hour of theory and 2 labs of 2 hours each per week)

Myths are traditional stories thought to explain natural occurrences. Mythbusters investigates the plausibility of different myths using critical thinking skills and employing simple experiments, inviting students to formulate and test basic hypotheses. Modelled after the popular Discovery Channel series, Mythbusters would challenge popular beliefs, attempting to separate fact from fiction. Myths like the “ten second rule”, curing hiccups by drinking up-side down, removing warts with duct-tape or that watching too much television can ruin your eyesight are scrutinized.
