Description
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
- Create a comprehensive service map of all community resources related to homelessness and related issues and services as well as identify service gaps.
- Include the resources available to homeless individuals in Port Alberni, on Vancouver Island, and in BC.
- Create Journey Maps to identify ways to support individuals to find housing, treatment beds, and connect with other available services.
- The project will be completed no later than 31 March 2022.
- Weekly reports will be submitted and discussed with The Salvation Army Alberni Valley Ministries. As the project continues reporting times may vary.
HOURS: 40/week
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position will be to research the current resources available to our vulnerable population. The focus will be on local resources but will extend to resources on Vancouver Island and throughout BC. The research results will be presented in an easy-to-use report that will be shared with the community. Subsequently, a report will be prepared to identify gaps in service and how they may be best filled. A series of journey maps will then be prepared to show how someone might navigate the services available to a desired outcome.
Critical Relationship Management:
- Internal relationships:
Member of the Alberni Valley Ministires team; work cooperatively as part of the team to serve the community of Alberni Valley. Report directly to the Corps Officer or designate.
- External relationships:
Liaison with a variety of community partners alongside or as delegated by Corps Officer.
Managerial responsibility:
- Reports directly to the Commanding Officer of the Alberni Valley or designate.
- The incumbent does not manage internal staff.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
Post-secondary education and/or equivalent experience is recommended; Bachelor of Social Worker is preferred.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge:
- Prior experience in working with the vulnerable
- Experience in conducting research and preparing reports
- Ability to work well independently as well as an ability to make connections with community members
- Superior written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to read, interpret and apply rules and regulations specific to each proposal
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines for grant opportunities
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when required providing necessary documentation, research and information
- Exhibit a positive attitude with a demonstrated ability to be adaptable to change by focusing on solutions and identifying opportunities for improvement
Competencies and Attributes:
- Understanding of the Mission Statement and values and beliefs of The Salvation Army and an ability to work effectively within that framework.
- High standards of integrity, judgment and confidentiality and an ability to model the values and standards of The Salvation Army.
- Ability to deal effectively with others.
- Computer proficiency.
- Represent The Salvation Army in a positive, professional manner.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
