        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

HOURS:

  • Varied. Casual two positions

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares meals including meals for special dietary needs of the residents
  • Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Makes use of and decides on best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste
  • Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence
  • May perform some employee supervisory duties in the absence of the Food Services Manager and Kitchen Supervisor
  • May supervises students, volunteers and / or residents in work therapy
  • May order food supplies
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and storage areas.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area – garbage, floors, dishes, cutlery, pots, and pans.
  • Responsible for putting dishes back to their proper location.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the plate racks, cup racks, equipment shelving, dishwasher, sinks, and all speed racks.
  • Cleans all stainless steel after usage and mops floor when necessary.
  • Polish and maintain silverware and other metal kitchen equipment.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition as per food safety plan.
  • Assist with sorting donation and liaise with the Loading Dock department
  • Regularly clean and organize food storage units including coolers and freezers
  • Ensure regular inventory of purchased and donated items is complete
  • Check compost, recycling, and garbage bins around the kitchen and replace if needed
  • Ensure the safety of clients through proper handling of food according to food standards
  • Follow legislative procedures and The Salvation Army standards for clean and dirty dishes
  • Ensure appropriate disposal of food waste in accordance with regulations
  • Assist with dishwashing duties when needed
  • Maintains cleanliness of work and dining areas – surfaces, chairs, tables, garbage, floors, dishes, cutlery and condiment containers, dirty dish carts, and salad bar.
  • Ensure any client spills cleaned and wet floor signage put up.
  • Portions desserts for in-house and shelter clients and maintains cleanliness of desert cooler.
  • Maintains and ensures the beverage station is refilled as required and cleaned regularly.
  • Interact with the cook/s on duty as to the availability of fresh fruit or desserts to the loading dock by the van driver or other sources of donations.
  • Informs Supervisor, Manager, or Cook when the stock of foodservice items is running low.
  • Set up the small and large dining rooms for breakfast, lunch, and dinner services.
  • Sets up snacks for staff breaks,
  • Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence
  • Maintains a safe environment
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • High School diploma, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.
  • Current and up to date WHIMS, First Aid Level I, Food Safe Level I

Experience:

  • Cook: One to three years of Cooking experience with at least one year in Institutional Cooking.
  • Other positions: At least 3 months experience in relevant field.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Must be fluent in English, both orally and written
  • Is knowledgeable about food preparation and is familiar with kitchen equipment

Other Requirements

  • Willingness to adhere to the Mission Statement of Harbour Light and the values of The Salvation Army
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts including 5 AM
  • Has the ability to stand for extended periods of time
