POSITION SUMMARY
Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.
The Assembly is seeking a collaborative, dynamic and strategic senior leader for the regular full-time position of Sergeant-at-Arms (Director of Security).
Reporting to the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly, the Sergeant-at-Arms (Director of Security) is a director-level position within the Legislative Assembly Administration that provides strategic leadership and directs Legislative Assembly Protective Services (LAPS) operations, ensuring the safety and security of Members of the Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Ministers, visiting dignitaries, staff, and members of the public. The Sergeant-at-Arms performs ceremonial and security duties relating to proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, ceremonies of state and special events, including maintenance of the decorum and supervision of the Chamber, galleries, and corridors under the direction of the Speaker, as prescribed in the Standing Orders and statute.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in public safety or a related field and a minimum of seven (7) years’ related management experience in an operational policing role in a leadership capacity. An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered.
Applicants must also have extensive planning and risk assessment training and experience related to management of large demonstrations and protection of critical infrastructure. The successful candidate will be required to maintain qualification for firearms and use of force equipment.
