ABOUT THE ROLE
As Director of Finance & Controller with our internationally recognized not-for-profit organization, you will be equal parts strategist, collaborator, leader, and problem solver. You will have primary responsibility for the organization’s financial management, including assuring our legal and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the President and CEO and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will be a key player in developing and leading the organization’s strategic directions and execution of the operating plan. In addition, you will be responsible for all aspects of completing timely, accurate accounting, not-for-profit financial reporting, adherence to accounting standards, maintaining, developing, and documenting disclosure controls and procedures, financial planning and analysis, risk management and preparation of reports to the senior leadership team, the Board, and other stakeholders
YOU WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO
- Bring a financial management lens, analytical and interpretive expertise, and a strategic leadership mindset to the Finance function at Goodwill.
- Play a key role on the Senior Leadership Team by delivering and interpreting financial reports and results; providing support; refining our reporting; leading the budget and forecast processes; and providing proactive oversight to all areas of our financial activities and the operational infrastructure of the organization.
- Be a valued business partner in the management of our government-funded programs and our social enterprise work by identifying key financial performance metrics and reporting and analyses.
- Manage the operations and functions of the Finance department.
- Do or oversee functional accounting work including general ledger completion, preparation of financial reports, payroll, benefits, banking, budget preparation and forecasting, financial controls, procedures and/or policy recommendations, audit preparation and completion of the annual financial statements.
- Prepare and ensure compliance with CRA filings and ensure legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations are met.
- Bring management accounting and analytical skills to all financial aspects of our operations, from projections and risk management to pricing and business planning.
- Administer our investments consistent with our policies.
- Attend and present at our Board meetings as may be required from time to time.
- Manage real estate-related financial work, with respect to our leased sites and our own leasing operations.
- Research, identify, and pursue grants and subsidies for general operations as opportunities arise.
- Represent the organization on related financial matters, or other duties as requested by the President.
- Be a coach and mentor to all direct reports, providing guidance, training, and career development.

- Superior computer skills, including Advanced Excel, MS Office (familiarity with Sage 300 and Desjardins EmployerD Payroll and HR Solutions would be an asset)
- Minimum 6 to 10 years of progressive experience in accounting with at least 3 to 4 years at a management or leadership level.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business management, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- CPA Designation, with excellent knowledge of GAAP and IFRS.
- Not for profit and/or government funding experience an asset.
