        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Position Purpose summary: The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sorts incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Fort Erie Thrift Store.

This is a permanent, part-time position based on 14 to 20 hours per week.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Shifts: Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00am. to 5:00pm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountabilities

  1. Operations
  • Protect the integrity of all donated items.
  • Open and close store.
  • Daily balancing of cash.
  • Process raw materials by loading/unloading, sorting, packing, pricing and storing donations.
  • Interact with customers/donors in a positive, friendly and courteous manner.
  • Possess knowledge of stock in order to respond to customer enquiries by phone/in person
  • Assist with store layout plans to attract customers, which include window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance”.
  • Replenish inventory levels based on supervisor’s directions.
  • Provide customer service and greet customers
  • Contribute to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, hanging and pricing as directed.
  • Assist with donation turnover, replenish the sale floor; remove inventory from sales floor as directed.
  • Abide by store policies and procedures.

 

  1. Communications
  • Inform your supervisor of all customer complaints, comments and concerns regarding customer service, prices, merchandise, etc.

 

  1. Health & Safety
  • Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g., snow removal, clear fire exits, cleans spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the store).
  • Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the store, tidy up and restock shelves, clean, sweep, dust and mop as necessary.

 

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Responsible for accurate completion of customer transactions including handling cash and debit sales.
  • Contribute to store budgets by maintaining customer service standards.
  • Assist with the materials management of donations/product flow in the thrift store.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent part time position.
  • Schedule may vary from week to week and include weekdays and Saturday’s.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching and reaching is required.

Ability to lift/move 20 to 29 pounds

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of Secondary School.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

 

Experience and Skilled Knowledge

  • Have a minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience.
  • Cash handling experience is required.
  • Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset.
  • Some warehouse experiences would be a definite asset.
  • Brand awareness would be an asset.

 

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Maintain information in confidence as required
  • Participate as an active and responsible team member.
  • Participate in mandatory orientation training.
  • Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures and associated legislation.
