Supervises the development and delivery of programs for library users of all ages, including promotions and marketing, and related services.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of programming principles, trends and technology, learning methods, public library services, effective writing and presentation skills, promotions, marketing, social media, and community partnership, normally acquired through a Master of Library and Information Science degree –OR– a related degree plus directly related library experience.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, collective agreements, and legislation/standards (e.g., privacy, accessibility, duty to report suspected child abuse).
- Problem solving, creativity, continuous improvement, and organizational skills to plan programs and learning opportunities; integrate new technology into programs; evaluate program performance and review programming trends to recommend/implement service improvements and keep programming current relative to the market; and expand the reach of programs by overseeing promotional, marketing, and social media outreach activities.
- Communication, leadership, and human relations skills to supervise, train, develop, motivate, and support staff; respond to program inquiries/complaints; foster collaboration with staff and community partners; communicate effectively with groups of all ages, conduct presentations, and provide information and training; and participate as an effective team member.
- Ability to read correspondence, reports, and data. Ability to write effectively for varied audiences and communication channels (web, print, audio, reports).
- Computer skills using software such as Microsoft Office, the internet, integrated library software, and virtual library resources and databases.
- Ability to travel within Waterloo Region.
- Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
