The Director of Engineering will be responsible for building an effective engineering organization within the larger R&D at Vendasta. Working with a team of Engineering Managers, the Director of Engineering will lead a highly skilled team of technical talent in the development & engineering spaces to new levels of success, engagement, and productivity. Our ideal candidate will use their extensive engineering, product, and leadership experience to partner with our CTO in establishing an overall strategy and vision for R&D at Vendasta that prioritizes the business’ growth, as well as the professional growth of Vendasta’s own talent.
Responsibilities
Maximizing Transparency
In order to find success in the role, the Director of Engineering must strive to bring transparency both up to their GM(s) and through to their Engineers. This will involve extensive communication skills and an ability to identify the need for processes and systems—then to create, monitor, and manage them for routinizing and automating these information flows.
Maximizing Discretion
As an organization grows in size, it risks losing its ability to empathize with the individual unless it builds strong autonomous teams that are the unit of empathy. The Director of Engineering must continually provide the patterns/frameworks required to allow Engineering Managers flexibility in their processes and policies.
Security & Scalability of the Platform
Engineering Management is an interface between the engineering and business constituents at Vendasta. Their goal is to maximize the effectiveness of engineering efforts while balancing sufficient business focus and needs. The Director of Engineering will work with the Chief Technology Officer to ensure the technical debt and long-term evolution of the platform are continuously addressed.

Based on three key components of compensation, self-actualization, and social connection, the Director of Engineering will work with various leaders to ensure these needs are best addressed at the team level. The Director of Engineering will work with Engineering Managers to ensure that every Engineer in their organization is regularly giving and receiving feedback on each of these dimensions.
Hiring & Retention
The Director of Engineering will help Engineering Managers with building strong engineering teams by building a strong recruiting pipeline with the People Operations group. This may involve speaking at events, and direct involvement in interviewing and evaluating strategic hires.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience) considered an asset
7-10 years experience in software development with increasing responsibility; preference given to those in SaaS
3+ years experience in a leadership capacity
Successful experience executing at a high-level, working and reporting directly to executive teams
Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, Agile environment
Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to articulate technical concepts to internal, external, customer, and prospective business audiences
